Reviews for The Comprehensive New Testament

It is with great excitement that I recommend to you - The Comprehensive New Testament. I have been able to use it for study and preparation in order to more accurately and clearly present the Word of God to those I teach and preach to weekly. This translation has challenged me to review and compare the text in various versions in order to understand the context and content of the passage. It is an awesome study companion that I strongly recommend for anyone who is serious about accuracy in presentation to acquire and use.

As a Pastor and Preacher, I am finding The Comprehensive New Testament a useful resource for use in ministry. It is both accessible and thorough. I can refer to it with confidence, knowing that it is also an appropriate resource for the church community. I wish I had had access to it during my D.Min. program. As a Ph.D. student, I am finding it to be a wealth of information at my fingertips, a timesaver as well as academically respectable. I anticipate using it regularly in technical studies. As a Daughter of God, I am finding it sensitive and devotional. I can sense that this work was covered in prayer throughout its development, and that the Lord has anointed it. I trust the Spirit to use your work to enrich the lives of many.

The editors of The Comprehensive New Testament are talented in their translation skills and thorough in their scholarly translation of the Western texts employed by Protestants and Catholics. The Greek texts translated, while being at places different from those used in our Greek Orthodox Churches, are nevertheless presented with a refreshing forthrightness and honesty regarding available sources, including the Byzantine text, duly referenced in the copious footnotes. The modern English of the Comprehensive New Testament’s translation shows good cadence, rhythm and natural good sense, preserving a reverent dignity for the holiness of the text, while at the same time being readable and accessible to the average reader. With great promise, we now look forward to seeing a future companion edition for Orthodox Christian Readers – The Comprehensive Orthodox Bible: Old and New Testaments – based in its English translation upon the Greek texts which have been in daily liturgical use in our Greek Orthodox Churches throughout the world for the last two thousand years.

A deft, accurate handling of both Greek and English; and an awesome, easy-to-use research tool for ordinary people interested in the history of the New Testament in its ancient literary context. The Comprehensive New Testament makes available, in English and in a single volume, a great depth of essential cross-references to ancient literature, and quotations from these sources. It is indeed comprehensive. The English syntax and vocabulary are straight-forward, yet shaped carefully by an appreciation of the underlying Greek. So, while this edition of the New Testament is invaluable to scholars, it is also suited to liturgical or devotional use.

I must say that The Comprehensive New Testament is an excellent tool that should not only be on the shelf with other study Bibles but should be with you wherever you go. I have studied and used many different translations of Bibles, and this one is now on my “best five” Bibles list - job well done. I pray that the work on the Old Testament is not far behind. I will recommend the purchase of this book to all of my colleagues, as well as the unsaved.

As a Certified Chaplain for the State of Florida, I’m doing Bible studies at the Moore Haven GEO Correction Facility. For over 5 years, we’ve been studying the word of God constantly dealing with people of many faiths and denominations not to mention every type of Bible ever written. During our studies we let the inmates read from their Bibles. The Comprehensive New Testament has allowed me to keep up with all the versions and also gives me an understanding of when, where, and to whom their versions were written. This has been invaluable information because we are studying with 20 Bible versions at one time. The Bible is clear when it reads in Romans 10:17, “So faith comes from hearing; and hearing by the word of Christ.” We always have a version that everyone understands.

The Comprehensive New Testament is a wonderful modern rendering of the sacred scriptures presented with an accuracy that will be a great help to anyone who desires a better understanding of God’s Word.

I am very impressed with this translation. It has been long needed. I made several checks on needed words and was pleased to find that they had been placed in scripture. Love the word Christ highlighted in the name. I have recommended this Bible to many. Thank you again, excited about this being available. May God add His blessings.

I do not have a string of letters behind my name. Some have graciously called me self-educated. I am part of the vast laity, a local church Elder who fills the pulpit at several Indiana churches when asked. I am a retired aircraft maintenance instructor who looks forward to the soon coming of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Your New Testament is a dream-come-true for me. I have been thrilled and blessed when reading and studying it! My study of Greek ended when I felt confident that our English versions were sufficiently accurate. I became aware of the limitations of any language, and the literary differences in the formal Greek used in the Gospel of John and the somewhat crude Greek of John’s Revelation. I have often wished for the time and skill to do exactly what you have done in comparing so many versions. I love them all from the conversational English of the NLT to the “novelty” of Peterson’s paraphrase The Message. And also compare them with Nestle’s GNT and other manuscripts. Well done! I have been thrilled in learning how to use it with the notes etc. I have shared with several congregations the premise of what will be available. It has become an invaluable aid for developing studies and sermons. Most valuable is having a ready reference to what is and is not in the oldest and most reliable manuscripts. It gives me a way to politely say “that was a later addition” or something to that effect.

Reading the Comprehensive New Testament for personal study as well as worship and meditation has greatly enriched my spiritual life. I have found the manner of interpretation not only God-honoring, but scripture-centered reflecting the true message of the revelation of God both in words and in the Word who became flesh, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Thank you for this contribution that not only will make His message clearer, but more consistent with those to whom God entrusted the original task of compiling His record.
